Tonight we caucused and decided to proceed with a broadcast originating from Detroit. There are problems with this, but there are always problem. In this case, the immediate problem is that WHFR, our host station in Dearborn, has a signal that doesn't fully penetrate Detroit. This could create complications, in that maybe it will be hard to mobilize groups to work with us if the broadcast can't really be heard locally. But it also creates opportunities. Al, who is founding a community station in Flint, says he has always wanted to see a "Michigan Network" of smaller stations that would air material that some larger stations might consider too threatening, like a frank discussion of poverty. So maybe this can develop in some interesting ways. For now all we can say is that we are committed to trying.
