The "White Paper" linked below is a follow-up to that talk, setting out my ideas in print. It may be found at:

"O' woe is me," I say to myself, "I am sixty and my genius still isn't recognized." That's not exactly what I think, but who'll blame me for trying to make myself look better? Yes, I am a pathetic specimen, but I also feel that I am fortunate, because I get to write anything I Nobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-49900998657355994902010-02-25T17:44:00.000-05:002010-02-25T17:44:02.710-05:00arriving homeThe broadcast is over now. We were happy that it went well and people made nice comments. I have a few more things to say about it, but for the moment, I will only report on something I found out about upon my return home. We live in a rural area, and before I left for Detroit, I bought a new pick-up truck.
By "new," I mean new to us. &Nobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-61405321219841724062010-02-24T12:58:00.000-05:002010-02-24T12:58:43.610-05:00First Thoughts AfterThe broadcast is over now. It went reasonably smoothly with few technical glitches and ended with comraderie between those involved. But the funny thing about doing this is that after months of work and staying up all night to make it happen, I really have no idea how it sounded. Being a host is not the same as being a listener. I don't listen to the broadcast in the way Nobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-1019875481882631212010-02-23T01:25:00.001-05:002010-02-23T02:02:22.907-05:00nerves, butterflies and what forges ironIn the end, on the night before the broadcast, I am just another guy on the eve of an event. There are differences, of course, between this and getting ready for battle or for a sporting event or a theatrical performance, but they all have their similarities too. One of them is being on the verge of something you don't know what it will mean in your life, because you can't know how itNobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-42226895501216916152010-02-22T01:44:00.001-05:002010-02-28T15:22:17.943-05:00More On RaceIt is a bit peculiar to me to find myself writing about race less than 48 hours before the broadcast. I think this is an occupational hazard of doing a blog and being a white guy in Detroit. Detroit is certainly known for more than its economic decline and one of the other things it is known for is its vibrant black culture. So the idea that I would have an encounter with race Nobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-29819359720313652262010-02-18T23:43:00.001-05:002010-02-19T00:14:05.644-05:00In Detroit for the BroadcastWe are in the thick of it now. As always, the final stages of preparation for the broadcast are very intense. We arrived at the broadcast site to find that the phone block was of a type we were unfamiliar with. So there was some immediate panic and a quick call to the phone company to make sure they could send a repairman out to install the jacks for us. But after a whileNobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-90279526020365237212010-02-11T15:40:00.000-05:002010-02-11T15:40:27.131-05:00More on the Capucin Cash (Holy) CowI just spoke to Roy Hoelscher. He's the man who made the announcement at the DAC meeting that they, the Capucins, would be accepting contributions for Haiti. He made a mistake, he said regretfully, in terms of the timing of the announcement, because he miscalculated when checks would be arriving. But be that as it may, the results are in.

The thought was "What if Detroit listened to me?" This thought came to me because I submitted an Op-Ed to the Detroit Free Press. I told them that it was kind of a manifesto for the upcoming broadcast. I got a reply from an editor saying she was interested in the piece. Like everyone in Nobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-17057563020083768012010-02-01T21:18:00.010-05:002010-02-07T23:05:24.353-05:00The Third Time Is The Charm?I am back from my third visit to Detroit doing advance work for the upcoming broadcast. I cut this visit short because my 88-year-old mother was hospitalized with pneumonia. Without getting further into her condition, there is much that troubles me, and one result of this is the feeling of wanting this broadcast to be really, really good just in case it is the last one I ever getNobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-17850341674860058912009-12-22T13:55:00.001-05:002010-02-12T09:43:51.695-05:00Another Thought About DetroitIt is funny how the brain works. When I got back from my second trip to Detroit, I wrote something about my meditations and the things I had seen but not about the things I had heard, and one thing in particular really had a wallop in terms of making an impression. I've told people about it, but I didn't originally record it in this blog. Maybe it just takes time for your Nobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-82851711260547371392009-11-20T08:46:00.000-05:002009-11-20T08:46:53.065-05:00Back from Detroit AgainThis latest visit to Detroit was much more intricate and affecting. I do not think this is because of any deficiency in my previous visit, but because the first visit helped me to get located and prepared me for the second. As I don't think I can make sense out of it all at this stage, I will just list some of my experiences in no particular order except for the order they are in on the piece of Nobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-15998473311023929522009-10-26T19:00:00.000-04:002009-10-26T18:44:23.162-04:00Back from DetroitAbby, the Marathon's producer, and I were in Detroit last week, and it looks like Detroit will be the site of the next Marathon, though we havent made the official announcement yet. People have asked me what Detroit is like, and I am hardly an expert, having been there for only a couple of days, but I will say that it reminds me of the set of a horror movie. There are problems with this, but there are always problem. In this case, the immediate problem is that WHFR, our host station in Dearborn, has a signal that doesn't fully penetrate Detroit. This could create complications, in that maybe it will be hard to mobilize groups to work with us if the broadcast Nobodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865267214661163237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-81563996352808796892008-03-22T18:21:00.000-04:002008-03-22T18:21:29.681-04:0011th Annual Homelessness Marathon Archived VideosArchived video taken during the first three (3) hours of the 11th annual homelessness marathon held in Nashville, Tennessee is available online for viewing, here (part 1) and, here (part 2) [via FreeSpeech TV].Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-71432781544560900382008-02-21T17:43:00.001-05:002008-02-21T17:44:23.624-05:00Piece O' Crap Library ComputersThey won't let me upload my photos of the Homelessness Radio Marathon.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609685134541908421.post-14401700784910499252008-02-21T17:29:00.002-05:002008-02-21T17:31:11.521-05:00Homeless Radio Program Back on the Air via ABC30 Fresno, CAView the archived video and read the transcript of ABC30's coverage concerning the state of affairs in Fresno, CA and the annual homelessness marathon, here.
